SUCCESS STORY: PUBLIC RELATIONS

Feeding Westchester

Westchester County’s largest nonprofit hunger relief organization

Clearly STRATEGIC

Following a year of ongoing press coverage stemming from pandemic-driven spikes in food insecurity, Co-Communications needed to develop a series of novel press angles to keep Feeding Westchester in the news. Stories needed to reach – and resonate – with those requiring access to emergency food as well as donors and elected officials.

Clearly CREATIVE

  • Identified individuals and families who were experiencing food insecurity for the first time and could provide first-hand accounts of what it was like to experience what many had dubbed the “second pandemic” (i.e. food insecurity).
  • Highlighted compelling volunteer and staff stories with press interviews and strategically placed bylined articles in target markets.
  • Created a State of Hunger mini-campaign to mark the one-year anniversary of COVID-19 in Westchester County, including a virtual town hall meeting, extensive media pitching and a COVID-19 impact summary.

Clear RESULTS

  • Secured more than 200 pieces of press coverage during an 8-month term, generating more than 15 million media impressions.
  • Coordinated a front-page feature in The Journal News, “No Vaccine for Hunger,” as well as articles in the Verywell Family, The Examiner, The River Journal, The Scarsdale Inquirer, Westchester County Business Journal, among others.
  • Garnered broadcast coverage for the State of Hunger from NBC4, FOX5, PIX11 and News12 Westchester, in addition to print and digital media.
