Mount Kisco, New York -– For the second time in the company’s twelve year history, Co-Communications, Inc., a full-service public relations and marketing firm, received the “Best of Show” award at the Advertising Club of Westchester’s (ACW) 2010 Big “W” Awards Gala. The event, held on June 8, 2010 at Abigail Kirsch at Tappan Hill, Tarrytown, NY, celebrated the work of Westchester’s top advertising, marketing, and public relations talent. Co-Communications was recognized for their work with Guiding Eyes for the Blind, the internationally renowned guide dog school.
The Big “W” Awards rewards excellence in creative and technical achievement in advertising, marketing, and promotion as determined by a panel of distinguished judges. The “Best of Show” Award is presented to the most outstanding entry in all categories. Co-Communications was among approximately 300 entrants vying for the award. In addition to “Best of Show,” the firm took home three Gold Big “W” Awards for their public relations campaigns.
Guiding Eyes for the Blind, headquartered in Yorktown Heights, NY, enriches the lives of blind and visually impaired men and women around the world by providing them with the freedom to travel safely. Co-Communications was initially brought on by Guiding Eyes in 2009 to handle their 32nd Annual Golf Classic, founded in part by PGA legend Ken Venturi in 1977. The event has raised over $7 million for the organization and is their largest annual fundraiser.
In Co-Communications’ seven-month campaign with Guiding Eyes, the firm reached an audience of over 30 million and generated more than 300 print, broadcast, and online media results. They were able to boost the school’s online presence and garner feature stories in major news outlets including USA Today, CBS Sunday Morning, The Today Show, NBC.com, and Women’s World, as well as with local New York broadcast stations and print media. Co-Communications secured 13 media outlets to attend the Golf Classic and coordinated interviews for Guiding Eyes’ blind golfers with newspapers and television stations across the country.
“While our efforts focused primarily on the Golf Classic, we also felt there were important stories to be told regarding Guiding Eyes’ incredible family of graduates, staff, and volunteers,” explained Kelly Lee, Senior Account Manager at Co-Communications. “It’s an honor to be recognized by our peers with such a distinguished award, especially for such an important, worthwhile organization as Guiding Eyes.”
“Guiding Eyes has benefitted enormously from its relationship with Co-Communications,” said Lisa Deutsch, Guiding Eyes’ Vice President for Marketing & Development. “They think comprehensively about our organizational goals. So, while their assignment was to provide public relations support for the Golf Classic, the agency’s team embraced every aspect of our work, and brought compelling stories to the public about our courageous blind guide dog handlers and dedicated volunteers. Our fundraising and volunteer recruitment efforts have been greatly enhanced because of their savvy and outstanding results.”
