Has your company acquired customers through social media? If the answer is “yes” – and your company is b2b or b2c – you are not alone. When executed effectively, social media marketing programs can help attract prospects, nurture leads and convert browsers into buyers. So, how do you use social media to acquire customers? For starters, follow these tips:

    >Show what it’s like to be on the inside

Culture plays a significant role in determining not only which companies talent wants to work for but from which companies prospective customers want to purchase. For some, it’s about supporting socially responsible organizations while others laser in on the environment in which they will be served.

As an added value, take people behind the scenes. Show them what product testing looks like (if you can) and how new concepts are conceived. This will help them to feel like they are on the inside and get them more excited about your brand.

    Embrace fans as content generators

Listening and engagement are both vitally important components of an effective social media marketing program. This means understanding what types of content are important to your online audiences and making a concerted effort to satisfy those needs. One way to achieve this objective is to encourage (and empower) your fans to contribute their own content. For example, if fans comment about a new and unique application for your CPG, encourage them to share a photo showcasing the application. If you have great testimonials about how your b2b service solved a client’s problem, invite them to share a video testimonial on your social channels.

    Reward loyalty

Perhaps you are bringing in a noteworthy speaker for a special event and attendance is limited. Maybe you are hosting a roundtable discussion with local business leaders and dignitaries at your offices. Why not offer your social media marketing communities a chance to win one of these coveted seats? Or, perhaps, host a “new to us” virtual or in-person event where prospective clients can become better acquainted with your brand?

By showing you value your social media communities, their engagement, their contributions, their support, etc., one can turn fans into customers and bystanders into lifelong brand champions.

Social media marketing can help companies to attract prospect, cultivate leads and convert bystanders into not only customers, but brand advocates. So…is social media marketing part of your customer acquisition strategy?
